China Road Trip

In an ongoing endeavor to develop the Chinese market, Christophe Claret and his team went to meet Chinese collectors in Beijing, Cheng Du and Canton.

Christophe Claret also had the immense privilege of being invited to the house of the famous Chinese pianist Liu Shih-kun and his wife, Samantha, both of whom greatly respect Christophe Claret’s watchmaking creativity. In 1956, Liu Shih-kun won third prize in the Franz Liszt International Competition in Hungary. Two years later, he was awarded the second prize in the first edition of the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow.

This stay also featured another stellar meeting with the musician Chen Jun, one of Chine’a finest ehru players. Currently one of the most best-known and most popular Chinese musical instruments, the ehru is a type of violin featuring two strings with a bow fixed between them, with the music resonating from the wooden drum forming its base. Chen Jun personally autographed his latest album for Christophe Claret.
